Dear Candidate:

It is my pleasure to learn of your interest in obtaining a nomination to one of the United States military service academies. Being selected for a nomination is an exceptional honor and responsibility.

Nominations to the four military service academies are highly competitive and, unfortunately, I am only permitted to have five young men and women at each of the academies at any given time. The first step to receiving a nomination is to obtain an application from the academy of your choice. If you are having problems obtaining an application, please let me or my office know and we will be more than happy to assist you.

To be considered for a congressional nomination, please provide my office with an essay explaining why you would like to attend a military academy, a one-page résumé of awards and extracurricular activities, three letters of recommendation, a transcript of your grades, and a photocopy of your ACT/SAT scores.

The deadline for all of the above material to be received is Friday, November 1. Shortly thereafter, you will receive a phone call to schedule a nomination interview. Generally, I interview prospective candidates in December of each year, and submit the names of my nominees to the academies in January.

Should you have further questions regarding my nomination selection process, please call my Military Service Academy Coordinator at 901-544-4131.

Sincerely,
Harold E. Ford, Jr.
Member of Congress
